Yesterday, I posted a link to an article on obstacles to creativity. One of the obstacles the article mentioned was our own set of beliefs.
Having a strong belief in something not only limits our response options, but causes us to limit the way in which we perceive and process information from the outside world. We may "filter out" information which contradicts our belief, and end up in our own "reality tunnel", in which we remain blissfully unaware of much that occurs in front of our very eyes.
Reality tunnels. I love that idea. We all get so caught up in our own definitions of the way the world "is," that we miss out on the full spectrum of what it could be.
I have been increasingly fascinated over the last few months with the way in which the reality we perceive comes largely from ourselves. That is, so much of what we see as an absolute reality is really simply our own projection.
Take time, for example. 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, 60 seconds in a minute. It is such an ingrained part of the way we experience our world that we see it as a concrete reality. When in fact it's really a measurement that we've created.
I know, I know. A little philosophical. But it's relevant, I promise. The exact same idea apples to many of the beliefs that we hold about ourselves, and what is and isn't possible. Those beliefs, in turn, limit or enhance the possibilities of our own world.
As you pursue passion in your career, take a minute and ask yourself, what does my reality tunnel look like? What am I missing as a result of the assumptions I'm making?

This is a load of crap. Believing in something makes you question everything. If you live through faith. You should constantly search for the truth.
