An article on BostonWorks.com titled Keeping your 2004 career resolutions has some ideas for how to make sure your resolutions don't meet with an inauspicious, fizzling doom.
In a nutshell, the secret is...PLAN.
Martin Yate, author of the job-hunting book, "Knock 'Em Dead 2004" says:
"When we make resolutions, we are making wish lists," said Yate. "I wish I had a better job, or I wish I had promotion, for example. But there is a big difference between a wish and a plan. So, the first thing we must do is take responsibility for our professional lives. That means making a commitment to our own enlightened self-interest."The article outlines some simple steps to follow to make good on your New Year's resolution:
* Write down your work-related goal or resolution
* Identify what you need to do to reach your goal.
* Prioritize. Decide what should be done first, second, third, and so on.
* Create a timetable.
* Identify any activities that can be put on hold until you've accomplished your goal. If there are, move the steps you came up with to earlier in your timeline.
Finally, they said:
