John Moore at the Ourhouse Weblog commented on my post about being curious and saying, "I wonder" as you move down your career path. He added something I thought was worth calling attention to:
...people often say the phrase "I don't know" with great pain and anguish as if not knowing is a really terrible place to be. But if we can try getting comfortable with not knowing, acknowledge what we don't know, we can get into an "I wonder" space which is a lot better for dealing with complexity!
Yes! And the fact is, you are going to not know a good deal more of the time than you are going to know when it comes to your future. Getting comfortable with uncertainty and riding the wave as it unfolds could become one of your biggest assets.
Thanks for quoting me, I feel chuffed! In fact, given the ever expanding amount of stuff online, the amount I obviously don't know is probably doubling every 2 or 3 years. Soon, even the smartest person is going to have to admit to knowing less and less!
People talk about Knowledge Management but probably the best skill to develop is "Ignorance Management" - dealing with Not Knowing with aplomb and self-confidence. :0)
