If the focus of the media is any indication, the world is one step away from the apocalypse. "If it bleeds, it leads" rules the day. Everywhere I turn I find the toxic message of death and destruction. And personally, I'm sick of it.
Earlier today I went to the CNN website to get a feel for what percentage of the news stories being covered have that negative slant. Today, six of the twelve "top stories" listed on the home page had to do with violence, crime, disease, or tragedy (most of the rest were simply neutral). In their US News section, ten of the twelve main stories had that negative slant. In the World News section, it was fourteen of nineteen.
That cultural addiction to negativity is reflected in the blogosphere. So many bloggers resort to the angry rant as their voice in the world. It's like communicating with a club.
Here's a revolutionary thought. What if more people focused on what they want to see the world become, rather than on what pisses them off?
If we're going to change the world for the better, we need a different message. We could start by taking the immense energy behind those negative rants and putting it into something positive. In this blog, I want to focus on positive news stories, stories of people who are making the world a better place, and inspiring books and movies.
If you like what you see here, please help spread the word. Better yet, join me and let's start a movement. Start a blog with a positive spin. Start a "positive perspectives" category in your existing blog. Or just commit to having one conversation a day about something that moves or inspires you.
We don't need to keep getting sucked down in that poisonous vortex of negativity, but to change the pattern, we need to consciously make another choice. I have no illusions that this blog will change all the world, but it can at least plant some seeds.
I hope you will join me in spreading those seeds even further.

What a great idea for a blog. For me, focusing on the negativity drains too much energy. There are indeed very negative things in this world, but I have found that if I focus on the positive then I am able to open my heart more and have more compassion. Thanks for the breath of fresh air and the 'link love'.

Love your positive slant. Here's a posive charitable idea to benefit children and your organization.
You can help a child while promoting your own brand. Forte Promotions, a promotional products company, is offering to give a charitable gift of your choice for every $500 that you purchase. Three charities have been chosen to receive the donations:
Toys for Tots primary goal is to deliver, through a charming new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters. A Teddy Bear will be given on your behalf.
Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery works in partnership with parents in crisis and the community to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. A toddler or youth sweatshirt will be given on your behalf.
Simpson Housing Services provides shelter and affordable housing with support services to homeless men, women and children and assists individuals and families in their effort to improve their life situations. A fleece blanket will be given on your behalf.
You can participate in this endeavor by contacting www.fortepromo.com or calling 877-997-7799 for your promotional needs ranging from executive gifts to imprinted shirts, calendars, and pens.
