I want to urge support for the legislation just passed by the House of Representatives to provide tax breaks for wind power, solar power, other alternative energy sources, and energy conservation.

The money is to come from the elimination of tax breaks for the oil and gas industry that would amount to $18 billion over the next 10 years. The 5 largest oil companies earned more than $120 billion in net profits last year.

The bill is expected to face opposition in the U.S. Senate and face a potential veto by President Bush, making it critical that concerned citizens contact those elected to represent them and make themselves heard.

Visit the Pollution-Free Planet Foundation. We encourage the replacement of fossil fuels with Hydrogen and other types of Renewable Energy. There is no single solution to the interrelated problems of Global Warming, Resource Depletion, Air & Water Pollution. We need to take substantial action on many fronts before it's too late.

Everybody should learn about electric cars as a solution. It’s amazing how far the technology has come. One of the main electric car companies, Zap, has delivered over 100,000 EV’s. (source: zapworld.com). EV’s cost 1 to 3 cents per mile to run, compare that to regular cars!

It's good to hear BP & GM talk about alternative fuels, but 50 years to implement is too long.

Perhaps this link will spark more attention:

It is GM's electric concept car the Chevy Volt. If more people begin to demand alternative fuel cars, we should be able to speed the rate at which the technology is developed.

We have started an Investor Forum where Investors can meet and discuss topics like this:

It's just occurred to me that the world population explosion could be a bigger threat to fossil fuel depletion and climate change than anything else. Globally we add one billion people every 11 years.

curt

quote:'a half-trillion dollars a year is leaving the United States economy to buy oil'

Only this very number is much more than enough to alert absolutely all government agencies and even US army to react and to stop/protect the country/nation against such a threat, even though, the very President plays a substantial role in the World Oil Lobby. It is about national security to the highest extent, now!

Belinda

It is time that we band together as individuals and create a major movement to create massive change. Let's stop being dependent on foreign oil by becoming self-sufficient with energy. IT IS TIME TO STOP LETTING GOVERNMENT AND SPECIAL INTERESTS DRAIN US DRY!

Forget OIL! GO Algae as our next fuel! See the video: http://www.greenenergytv.com/Watch.aspx#1472348255

John Lewis Mealer is the founding President of The Mealer Companies presenting the MAMC fossil and bio-fuel free auto.
This is a non EV and surprisingly does not use LP or NG gases to maove it along. Full sized power for the way we need to move!

TMC has also designed and will refine a new non plant based
BIO-FUEL called Blatt-Soda. Stay tuned for more! This is CO2 emmission free power!

Renewable resources are the way of the future. It will cost us some money in tax incentives short term, but once wind mills or alternative fuel power plants are up and running, they will be self sustaining and profit generating for the owners. This will lead to more of them because if they are profitable to the owners, more owners will surface.

Ashley

What's different about Pickens Plan is that he is at least offering a plan - there are so many companies, non-profits and organizations who encourage the government/president stop our oil addiction - but few are actually coming out with alternative plans...and making them public!

It's about time the nation starts to shift to alternative energy. With the technology today, the price for renewable energy is falling to affordable prices.

Bill602

T.Boone Pickens has a great plan that should be implemented, but there is another plan that needs to accompany his. That is an upgrade of the U.S. electrical utility grid. It needs the electrical equivalent of an interstate highway system to quickly transmit large quantities of power over long distances. Without that, we’ll have gridlock worse than we now have in Washington.

Pickens' web site says "wind and solar" but the details are 100% wind and 0% solar. Solar technology is improving by leaps and bounds, due to advances in materials science, semiconductors, nano-tech manufacturing, thin film polymers, etc. Windmills are incrementally improving in efficiency over time because the basic technology is a generator, a simple mechanical device. The Pickens web site does not even attempt to justify the choice of wind over solar.

If we pass laws to favor wind, invest a trillion dollars in turbines, while solar continues to improve efficiency and economics much faster than wind, we are betting on the wrong technology.

Efficient Planet

Forget the economy crisis...

launches on monday and is advertised to cut 80% off your electricity bill.

Yeah, I saw his advertisement on television some months ago. I have to say that I believe this to be a viable resource for renewable energy
also.

Even Barack Obama has voiced his intentions to use the "wind corridor" to produce sustainable, renewable energy via wind power.

Great post!

Solar Energy News

As much as I like the idea, I think T.Boone is out for T.Boone. He's a smart business man and i think he is looking for the tax payers to subsidize billions, while he makes even more billions.

Rick L.

Great Idea. I believe Pickens is on the right track to changing the worlds energy needs. Amazing. Great stuff. Thanks a bunch, Rick L.

Clark Coleman

I have done a lot of research since my previous comment and have to say that Pickens focuses on wind energy because it is quite a bit cheaper than solar energy at present.

Jessica Brock

T. Boone knows whats happening. Alternative energy sources are imperative to the sustainability of our economies future! Please come and visit Valcent to see what we’re doing in efforts to promote algae biofuel. Come and see our commercial sized unit producing algae and turning into a valuable alternative energy source!

We need to give tax breaks for companies that provide us with sufficient tax breaks. This is getting ridiculous. Our earth is getting screwed up while, we can't even install solar panels!

Solar Panels are Overated. They break to easy. We need something stronger

Heartland Energy Development Corporation

There is a great need for alternative energy resources in present economic situations. The rise in oil prices as effected many countries.

very informative

run your car on water

i agree with the last comment. solar panels are so overrated. i would not have them.

run your car on water

its about time that he did this.

run your car on water

its about time they are doing something about it.

Solar Panels are not overrated. They are good for the environment and if you treat them normal they won't break.

Solar power is one of the cleanest, versatile and most viable forms of renewable energy available. You can use this solar electricity to charge your phone or to power your entire house. Solar energy is a great way to reduce your environmental impact and save money as well. They come with a 25 year warranty if you choose quality panels so you don't have to worry about them breaking. To reduce your environmental impact outside your house there are also portable solar chargers.

sagar

we need that petroleum companies also use and produce renewable energy.
