Ethanol may not be a direct replacement for gasoline, but it can be mixed in greater quantities with gasoline, lessening dependence on oil. Cars just need to be made more resistant to the corrosive effects. We shouldn't just ignore ethanol just because it can't replace gasoline, it does have its place.
