I've been trying to figure out a way to ask this question...

It's not likely that I will ever be able to support myself with my real passion (making quilts). So I find myself in this sort of two-part invention: the day job and what I do "for real". Evaluating options seems different when the question is more about "paying the bills" and yet after a string of unsatisfying jobs, my question seems to be something like: how to best choose and evaluate jobs that aren't really careers, the ones that pay the bills so you can do what's important to you. Pay the bills but not suck the life out of you...

Does that make any sense?
