The unknown seldom brings the worst

Fear of the unknown is one the biggest fears holding people back from pursuing their dreams. They look at the unknown and immediately go to the worst case scenario. No wonder they end up staying with the familiar, tried and true rather than risk a change!

But if you look at it from a purely logical perspective, that makes no sense whatsoever. The odds that the worst case scenario will actually happen are minute. Think of a bell curve, with one end of the spectrum being worst case scenario, and the other end being best case scenario. The most likely outcomes are somewhere in the middle, not the extremes.

And as long as we insist on fixating on unlikely outcomes, why not fixate on the positive end of the curve?

I love the Mark Twain quote about this: "I've lived a long life and seen a lot of hard times...most of which never happened."

So if you have a step you'd like to take, but fear of the unknown is holding you back, ask yourself if your expectation is realistic...or if you are creating "hard times that never happened."
