One of the books I'm reading is Embracing Uncertainty by Susan Jeffers (the author of Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway).
One of the things most of us fall prey to (including yours truly) is looking at the future and saying, "What if...?" Unfortunately, that what if is usually followed by a litany of things that could be bad. Jeffers suggests a different spin on it. Ask yourself, "What if it's good?"
So instead of asking yourself...
* What if I lose my job? * What if I get sick? * What if I get a divorce? * What if the weather is terrible? * What if we have a lousy time? * What if the food is bad?
Ask yourself...
* What if I love my job? * What if I'm healthy? * What if my marriage is loving? * What if it's a gorgeous day? * What if we have a fabulous time? * What if the food is great?
Replacing the clutter of the negative with the potential of possibility is a great way to shift your experience of uncertainty.

It's funny, though, I always superstitiously think that as long as there are things I can identify as "bad," then I am warding off the REALLY bad stuff. It's as if a person is allotted a certain amount of yuck in life, and if things go too well, then you'd better duck, quick.
