The power of ripples
In my own journey, one of the things I am coming to understand is how important the idea of being a catalyst is for me - throwing the pebble in the pond and being the source of ripples, which then do their own thing. I often say, only half joking, that I want to change the world, I just don't want to do the work.
I'm seeing this in action with Martin Spernau over at Traumwind. Inspired partially by the ideas I have shared here, he is moving towards doing something similar over in Germany.
So I threw a pebble in the pond. The ripples that spread out from Martin will in turn affect others, helping them create meaningful, fulfilling lives. Which in turn will have an impact on the people around them. The positive effect of my work spreads much farther than I could hope to spread it myself.
Interestingly, on my business card I have a picture of a water drop and ripples. When I chose it three years ago, it had multiple layers of meaning. One was simply because I love water, and have always been fascinated with pictures of water drops in mid-plop. Another was the water drop as a metaphore for what I do. Yet another meaning had spiritual significance.
I've only recently realized that it also represents my role in the greater scheme of things. It's not about rolling up my sleeves and making things happen in one specific area. That's honestly not where my gifts lie. It's providing the spark for others to discover the difference they want to make. Being the catalyst for others to change the world in whatever way feels right for them.
Seems this journey is ever the voyage of discovery.
