Writing career: An entrepreneurial approach
What's the secret to a successful writing career? According to an article by Shirley Kawa-Jump on the sellwriting.com website, it's entrepreneurship. She talks of a conversation she had with her husband, an entrepreneur who had recently bought a business.
On a long car ride one night, we talked about what it took to be an entrepreneur, with him dispensing bits of wisdom from Steven Covey and Harvey Mackay-two of his favorite authors. I realized that his take on a successful entrepreneur is the same as my own on a successful writer. Lots of writers make money, but to make REAL money, the kind that keeps you from having to worry too much about paying the light bill, takes a certain skill set...She points to some of the key components that both writing and entrepreneurship share on the road to success:
* Courage
* Tenacity
* Faith
* Hunger
She suggests journaling as a tool to help you keep that entrepreneurial focus.
One way of making sure you stay on the entrepreneurial track is by keeping a journal. Write down your goals, your dreams, your ideas. Think like a business person and create a five-year plan, a ten-year plan, a worst case scenario. These do not have to be elaborate or complicated. These are notes just for you, so make them as informal as you wish. The point is to give yourself a framework for success. Entrepreneurs always have a game plan for their future.Curt Rosengren Passion Catalyst SM
