Power-generating clothes

This post is brought to you by

Out and about and need to charge up your iPod? Just plug it into your...shirt?

Could happen, if this new technology has anything to say about it.

Someday, your shirt might be able to power your iPod just by doing the normal stuff expected of a shirt.

Scientists have developed a way to generate electricity by jostling fabric with tiny wires woven inside, raising the prospect of textiles that produce power simply by being stretched, rustled or ruffled by a breeze.

The research, described in the new edition of the journal Nature, combines the precision of nanotechnology with the elegant principle known as the piezoelectric effect, in which electricity is generated when pressure is applied to certain materials.

This is an excellent idea. But I would like to use it more for my mobile. Or if it could be used for making electricity for houses:-D we all would look like little rats in a wheels, which make electricity, only without a wheel :-D

Everybody should learn about electric cars as a solution. It’s amazing how far the technology has come. One of the main electric car companies, Zap, has delivered over 100,000 EV’s. (source: zapworld.com). EV’s cost 1 to 3 cents per mile to run, compare that to regular cars!

LOL! Soon we shall have underwear powered bicycles or something! However, there is something in the market at the moment that is portable and that can be used to charge your gadgets like your cell phone, laptop, I pod etc. This universal battery charger i thought was a great idea!

You wonder how long its going to be before everything goes critical! Wont be long befor we are mining our land fill sites for raw materials! - steve - www.ukengineeringrecruitment.net

I have heard a lot about this recently and am looking forward to the practical applications of such new technologies. Wouldn't it be cool to recharge an electrical car with the nano solar bots painted into the tinting on the windows!?! We are closer, every day, to the end of oil... the edge is looming. As soon as we're over the edge we'll be free to fly!

Very interesting.

If the economics don't work, recycling efforts won't either.
Check Http://LivePaths.com, a blog about innovative entrepreneurs that make money selling recycled items, provide green services or help us reduce our dependency on non renewable resources. These include some very cool Green online ventures, great new technologies, startups and investments opportunities.

Great one for me! I would go for it!! Summer is drawing to a close, but it's never too late to pick up a timeless dress! The Audrey Lacey Romance dress by Tt Collection is just lovely - it can be layered throughout colder seasons and flaunted solo all summer. Visit: http://www.ttcollection.com

Power-generating clothes Rule.

Power-generating clothes who would have imagined, how time flies. Great Stuff, Thanks a bunch, Rick L.

LEDs don't require very much power. You could power them with clothes. :)

are they machine washable?

The amount of electrical energy genetic by kinetic energy would have to be teeny, but for many small devices that's all you need to extend the battery charge. We at AltE already offer portable solar power solutions just for that need (charging iPods, cell phones, etc) using foldable, rollable and flexible thin film solar panels technologies.

I'll take on for my cell phone - It always seems to go out of juice when I need it.

Really great post.

I am very enjoy your blog, your blog is very true of the bar, hoping to see you more exciting content! I wish you have a happy day! http://www.star-trek-dvd.com

new technology is so crazy. I would love to have something like this.

I saw a solar hat already in mass production- they finally got rid of that goofy gadget look-
this one's kinda attractive, in fact. They show some lab video footage of efficency, also.
