Energy conservation tip: Choose your refrigerator wisely
|
Curt Rosengren ~ Passion Catalyst TM "Love your work. Change your world." |
Refrigerators use 14 percent of a home’s electricity, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Today’s most efficient 20-cubic-foot refrigerators use 47 percent less electricity than 1993 models. Beware of these resource hogs:
- side-by-side refrigerator/freezers use 10 percent more electricity than freezer-on-top models;
- through-the-door water and ice dispensers and automatic icemakers can increase electricity use by up to 20 percent; and
- automatic defrost models can use up to 40 percent more energy than manual defrost models,

Look what is on the Moon? Can this be our energy future?
Look at this quote.
When helium-3 combines with deuterium (an isotope of hydrogen) the fusion reaction proceeds at a very high temperature and it can produce awesome amounts of energy.
"Just 25 tonnes of helium, which can be transported on a space shuttle, is enough to provide electricity for the US for one full year."
This is why China wants to go to the moon by 2017. We are going back in 2020. We need to get there faster. We should have a national goal of 2013, 5 years

The energy crisis has never been before this much worse. Several talks had been made in the past decade on how to conserve energy.
Dozens of research had been funded for the development of energy efficient household devices. But no matter how efficient those gadgets are they still consume power. The best solution is self discpline. We must how to limit our usage of appliances and be able to turn off unused lights and other electrical equipments.

Everybody should learn about electric cars as a solution. It’s amazing how far the technology has come. One of the main electric car companies, Zap, has delivered over 100,000 EV’s. (source: zapworld.com). EV’s cost 1 to 3 cents per mile to run, compare that to regular cars!

Another tip. If you live in Texas or another deregulated state - switch to a green energy plan at a lower rate.

I, unfortunately, live in an area where people just don't care, about themselves, the environment, etc. It's heart-breaking to see the waste that goes on around here.
However, in some of their defense, jobs are scare here (have been for years), so many folks are left with older model appliances and can not afford the newer, more energy-efficient ones.
I wish someone would implement some kind of exchange, where you can bring in your old non-energy efficient appliance and get an used energy efficient one. I think it's a start anyways.
